The Secret to Arranging Your Sectionals

Sectionals, despite being practical and very accommodating can be a challenge to design, arrange, and incorporate into the house for most people. If done incorrectly, they can drown out and weigh down the room. However, for something that can accommodate the whole family and a bit more, you’d really want to make it work with this piece of furniture. It might seem like a whole lot of hard work, but actually you only need to keep a few things in mind when arranging your space to end up with a layout that not only works but is also fresh and inviting as well.

If you haven’t bought your furniture yet, the most important thing to do first is to measure the space that you have. No one wants to buy such a large piece of furniture and end up returning it because it won’t fit in their rooms. However, if you already have your sectionals bought, the best tip to avoid drowning the entire room in this super large piece of furniture is to create balance. The best way to go about doing this is to place them directly across the room’s focal point; this can be your fireplace, television or entertainment hub, or a large window.

Once you’ve balanced out your room, you can then create a flow. Usually people think that large pieces such as this need to be anchored against the wall but actually bringing them in closer and not pushing them against the wall creates a more cozy and intimate seating option. Just be sure that no piece is blocking any doors and people should still have space to move around.

Since you’ve now achieved a sense of balance along with a flow to your room, you can now personalize your space. If you have a neutral colored set, you could liven up your space by placing a colorful rug in the center. Small touches like lamps and flowers in the coffee table can also do wonders to your arrangement. Placing a coffee table in the middle of your sofa can provide another focal point for the whole arrangement and gives everyone an illusion of coming together more. Hopefully these tips will make you see how versatile these pieces are and not just that bulky seating option that you chose because you wanted to entertain lots of people. You just need to put in a bit of your family’s personality and you won’t ever need to say “drab” again.
